Anna Katibah
Anna Katibah's love of music began early. As a young child, some of her favorite toys were her guitar and autoharp. She began taking piano lessons at age six and found an immediate passion for the instrument. In elementary school she began playing flute both at school and through private lessons. While attending Stanley Middle School in Lafayette, CA, Anna had the opportunity to participate in both band and jazz band under the instruction of Bob Athayde. She continued in both band and jazz band under the instruction of Harvey Benstein at Campolindo High School in Moraga, CA, where she also had the opportunity to participate in orchestra and the pit orchestra for several of the school's musical productions including My Favorite Year and Hello Dolly. Anna traveled to Russia with the Campolindo High School band in 2007 to participate in an international music festival.
Miss Katibah has attended Cazadero Music Camp, Pacific Music Camp, and Northern California Flute Camp for many summers throughout her elementary, middle, and high school years. Anna also attended Bob Athayde's Summer Jazz Workshops for many years as both a student and a mentor. She is currently a flute performance major with an emphasis in music education at California State University, East Bay in Hayward, CA, where she studies flute with Michelle Caimotto. Anna has privately studied flute with Laura Marks, Kathy Meyer, and Patrice Hambelton also. She has also studied classical piano with Sue Renno and Xiomara Di Maio and jazz piano with Bob Athayde and Kyle Athayde.
Anna currently teaches an intermediate after-school band class at Mission San Jose Elementary School in Fremont, CA through the Fremont Education Foundation. She also instructs flute, piccolo, clarinet, saxophone, violin, viola, and piano at the Bay Area Academy of Music in Pleasanton, CA in addition to just flute and piano at the Better World School of Music in Hayward, CA and flute at Inspire Music Center in San Francisco. After receiving her Bachelor's degree from CSUEB, Anna plans to pursue a masters and teaching credential so that she can teach instrumental music full time in the public schools.
