Mikhael Khalikulov

Mikhael KhalikulovMikhael Khalikulov was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and came to the United States when he was only three years old. He grew up in San Francisco, in a family of musicians, studying cello, piano, and music theory. He received his Bacholor's Degree in cello performance at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has studied cello with great cellists such as Antonio Lysy, Peter Wyrick, Peter Rejto, John Walz, and many others.

Mikhael has been teaching music to young students for several years, and he has enjoyed every moment. He has worked with kids in the San Francisco and Los Angeles Unified School Districts. During this time, he has developed an approach to teaching that aims to give the student a very strong technical foundation on the cello, while also teaching the student how to use their ears, read, and understand music. He believes all these elements are crucially important to developing a young musician.

Mikhael grew up playing mostly classical music, but has branched out into other musical genres in the past several years. He studied jazz at UCLA with Tamir Hendelman, and has played and performed various music from around the world. He is currently working with San Francisco-based band Rupa and the April Fishes, playing in the Classical Revolution and pursuing other musical projects.
